Signs for Life Campaign
As Baptists, we have always been pro-life, seeking to value the image of God in all people, especially those in need of mercy. Across the street and around the world, you will find Baptists feeding the poor, ministering to prisoners, performing disaster relief, serving as chaplains, etc. This includes seeking the best for pregnant women and their unborn children. Recently, new opportunities have arisen to be more proactive in assisting others.
In the wake of the reversal of Roe vs. Wade, there are plans to open six new abortion clinics in Carbondale, which lies within the boundaries of the Nine Mile Baptist Association. Illinois is a pro-choice state, which enables a woman to make a decision about the unborn baby she is carrying. Many women see two options – keeping the baby or choosing to have an abortion. However, there is a third option – to give birth and place the baby for adoption by loving parents who have not been able to conceive a child on their own.
Through the Baptist Children’s Home and Family Services, we are fortunate to already have three services available to women with unplanned pregnancies – Grace Haven Pregnancy Resource Clinic, Angels Cove Maternity Center for expectant and new mothers and babies, and Faith Adoption Services. All three entities have expressed the same need – help in getting the word out! However, there are limited funds for publicizing these services.
Yard signs have been designed to encourage women with unplanned pregnancies to call for information about placing their child in adoption services. We hope and pray these signs will save the lives of babies and place them in loving, Christian homes. A “Signs for Life” campaign will be promoted in our association churches during the month of January,
with a special offering for these signs taken on Sunday, January 22- Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
